Life Lately April 2022

April was a month filled with celebrations.  We had Ben's 10th birthday, Easter Sunday, and our 26th wedding anniversary.  In addition to all of that, here are several more miscellaneous moments from the month of April.

When our guests came to visit in March they had brought us these handmade name decorations.  Denise's brother made them for us.  They are very cool!

I got to celebrate my friend Katie's birthday with lunch at Caoba Farms.

We watched the college basketball playoffs and the national championship game.

We had a backyard movie night with some neighbor friends.  We watched Sing 2.

During our Easter break I did some baking.

I made four loaves of chocolate chip banana bread.

and eight pans of cinnamon rolls. My freezer should be stocked for at least a few more weeks.

We were invited to lunch by a volunteer team from Alabama who was in town. Since we will be featured in Lifeway's VBS this summer we have been contacted by many Southern Baptist churches wanting to connect.  If your church is doing Spark Studios this summer, look for us in the missions material.  What an honor it is to be featured this year!

We were invited to an Easter egg hunt with several other families.

These poop shaped eggs were a big hit with the kids.

Semana Santa is the busiest time of the year in our city.  We spent a lot of time walking the streets taking in all the sights and sounds of the season.  There had been no activities for the past two years due to Covid, so this year's celebration was big.

We tried a new pizza restaurant that recently opened.  It is a Detriot style restaurant named Wilder's.  We loved it! It is located at 5a Calle Poniente 8.  If you are in town, give them a visit.

Yum!!

We love Antigua!

On Good Friday (the biggest day of the year here) we left home at 5:00 a.m. headed out to see the beautiful Easter carpets.  We met friends and all walked into town together.

These elaborate carpets are made from colored sawdust, flowers, fruits, and pine straw.

They use large wooden stencils to made the patterns.

I took over 100 photos in all.  There were so many unique ones that it was almost impossible to only pick a few to show in this post.

Mid-morning we had breakfast at Cafe Condesa in Antigua.

The kids enjoyed Dunkin Donuts.

Taking a tuk tuk ride back home after walking around town for 6 long hours.

We spent a few days at a prayer retreat with our IMB mission family.  We had such sweet fellowship together.  It was a little bitter sweet because it was the last one with the Browns (on the end in navy blue).  They will be retiring at the end of the month.  Our mission family sure has shrunk since we arrived on the field.  It just makes our times together even more special.

We ended the month with the boys having an invitation to a Nerf war with some friends in Guatemala City.

Ready for battle, in a friendly way, of course.

While they played, we bought groceries and a few supplies.  We also had a lunch date at Carl's Jr.  It is a family favorite.

On the drive back home to Antigua, we got behind a truck hauling two very large pigs.

I took a few videos and did not realize until after the fact that it had picked up the voices from a movie the boys were watching in the back seat. We have had a few good laughs at how they lined up together.

Lastly, a beautiful volcano view as we returned to Antigua.  We really do live in a lovely place.
