Spreading God's Word- Oral and Written

On Tuesday David traveled to La Ceiba to do another radio recording for the Institute of the Air.  They met and did the recording in the Baptist church there.  They have been doing a series through the book of Acts and got twelve more stories recorded in the series.  David edited them and burned them to CD's on Wednesday and we hope to get them out to the radio stations within the week.  Please pray that God would use these stories to encourage believers, and open doors to new works among the Kekchi people.

Bro. Adilio (not present) has been heading up the Institue of the Air for many years.  He recently ended his time as pastor at his church here in the Peten.  He has returned to his hometown in Carcha (outside of Coban).    We are not sure what further involvement he will have in the recordings but ask you to pray that those involved will be able to continue with this great ministry.

On another note, the Kekchi Bibles are arriving in Coban today- 20,000 of them!  Pray for Miss Fran as she gets a little overwhelmed with receiving and storing them.  Pray that we will find a storage home for each box and that plenty of workers will show up to help unload them.

Our Week in a Nutshell

Since returning home last Friday we have been overrun with the neighbors coming by.  It's been nice to visit and catch up, but at the same time we had a lot of unpacking, cleaning up, and getting settled back in to do.  That is kind of hard when you have a house full of kids.  We took one day and didn't allow any visits so we could get it all done (most of it anyway).  That was a nice day.

Last Sunday we visited Templo Bautista Cristo es la Roca in Linterna 1.  We had a great time of worship with the believers there.  After being gone for a few weeks we were looking forward to getting back among the K'ekchi' people.

After church it turned in to a little photo shoot with a few of the pastor's family members that all wanted a picture with Cruz.  He was hot, tired, and hungry but let us take a couple with him.

This past Wednesday David helped do another recording for the "Institute of the Air".  They got twelve stories recorded and they should begin airing sometime this month on the K'ekchi' radio stations.  Please continue to pray God's anointing on this ministry.  Many hear these stories aired over the radio and call in to the radio stations to request someone to go visit them and share with them more.  Many K'ekchi' churches have been planted as a result of this ministry.

We were happy to have the Stamps drive up to visit with us on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.  We enjoyed their fellowship very much. (I forgot to take a photo)

On Friday we headed up north to run some errands and buy some groceries.  It was a hectic day as not much of anything that we had planned went as we had planned it to.  It was "one of those days".  We returned home to find that our water tank was out of water.  It's been near 100 degress here everyday this week and we don't have a/c so we have been enjoying our evening showers (and needing them too, haha).   So, instead we took turns pouring bottled water over ourselves so we could at least rinse off.  You can buy a five gallon jug of bottled water for around $2.00 so it wasn't much of a waste and it sure made me feel better.  We hope the town turns the water on today so we can fill our tank back up!

Today we will be attending a picnic with some other missionary families that live around here.  Can't wait to experience that!

Tomorrow we will be back at the mission in La Libertad.  We are anxious to see how they are doing and if they have a new pastor yet.  Please pray for the services we will be having there.

Radio Recordings

On Friday David helped do another recording for the "Institute of the Air".  We are beginning our fourth year to help with this project.  This recording was held in the village of Jordan.  In the past we always held them at our place in Coban.  Where we are living now is too noisy to do a recording so we decided to do it in the village of one of the K'ekchi' brothers.  (Let me just quickly explain that all of the male K'ekchi' believers are called "brothers".  In Spanish we call them all hermanos.  All of the women are called "sisters", hermanas.)  So when I write something like "K'ekchi' brothers" you will know it is just cultural.  Anyway, they met on Friday and recorded twelve stories on the life of Jesus.  David is now editing those stories and will burn them to CD's soon and get them out to five different radio stations to begin airing.  Please pray God's anointing on this series of stories and for wisdom in deciding what and when to record next.

A New Recording on Discipleship

Monday we held another recording session for the Institute of the Air. The focus of this new study is on discipleship. We recorded 12 new stories that will soon begin airing on K'ekchi' radio stations. The study was taken from a booklet that was written many years ago by our supervisor- Jim McGriff. David is currently editing the stories and getting them ready to put on discs. We will then get them out to the stations. Please pray for God's annointing on this ministry.

Radio Recording Session

On Monday we held a recording session for the Institute of the Air. This is a radio Bible program that airs on K'ekchi' radio stations. These K'ekchi' brothers decide the study topics, write the studies, and then we help get them recorded and put on CD's for the stations to air. They spent about 5 hours yesterday recording and got twelve 20 min. stories recorded. The title of this study is "The Christian Family". David's job now is to edit the stories, put them on CD's, and get them out. Pray for these sessions as they begin to be aired that God would use them to strengthen many K'ekchi' homes and families!

K'ekchi' Radio Meeting

This morning we had a meeting with some of the leaders from the radio stations. The purpose of the meeting was to make plans for 2009 which include study topics and recording session times for the "Institute of the Air". This is a radio program that airs Bible stories and studies. These men write the studies, record them, and then air them on local radio stations. We help out with the recording and editing. Please pray for this outreach to continue and strengthen in this new year.
