Returning to Guatemala to Begin our Fifth Term of Service

On Saturday, January 8, we flew back to Guatemala to begin our fifth term of service with the IMB. We had a 1:45 a.m. alarm set to get us up and at the airport on time for our early morning flight.  We were tired before we even got started!

Here is Ben guarding our backpacks and carry-on bags while Cruz and David got our luggage checked in. As you can imagine, we returned with a lot of baggage.

Here we are waiting to board our flight.   I was a little emotional that day and it began while sitting and waiting.  I cannot remember a time when I cried on a return day but something about this trip was a little different.  I cried off and on all day.  I am fine, but just a little more sad than usual.

We had a long layover in Dallas but it provided us the chance to eat Chick fil A one last time.  We have never had it for breakfast and we have been missing out.  Those chicken minis are amazing! We will add that to our list of things to look forward to on our next trip home.

The boys always love riding the trains in the airports.

We landed in Guatemala at 2:30 in the afternoon.  Here is Ben wanting his picture taken while David was getting us through Immigration.

We arrived home late that afternoon and began unpacking.  We had no food in our home so we had Pollo Campero delivered for supper.  That meant we had had Zaxby's the night before, Chick fil A for breakfast, no lunch, and now Pollo Campero for supper.   Needless to say, we do like chicken.  We were in bed early, as you can imagine.

We slept in and then spent most of the day unpacking and getting things put away.  At the time it felt like an endless chore. This is a photo I took that morning of Agua Volcano from our upstairs patio. I had definitely missed the views of Antigua.  It really is a beautiful place to call home.

We called in McDonald's delivery for breakfast.  We rarely eat McDonald's in the States but love it here.  The boy's favorite is their egg, black bean, and cheese McMuffin.

They were thrilled to see all of their old toys again.  This provided them hours of entertainment while we worked in the house.

That afternoon we made our first (of many) trips to the grocery store to begin restocking our kitchen.  I have since made several other trips to various stores trying to find all that I need.  It didn't take me long to miss one stop shopping.

We have now been back two weeks.  At times it feels like we just left the U.S.and other times it feels like it has been months.  We are readjusting well and it definitely feels good to be back in our home with our own stuff.  School is keeping us quite busy these days but also providing us with needed structure and routine.  We are slowing getting back out and about.  David has been in contact with many pastors in our area and making plans to visit with each of them.  Pray for wisdom for us as we look for ways to minister here locally and make an eternal impact in our area.

Thank you for praying for our return trip.  We felt your prayers and continue to feel them even now.
