February 2022 Newsletter

Home Sweet Home
Thank you for praying for our return trip to Guatemala.  We flew back on Saturday, January 8 to begin our next term of service. We had a surprisingly smooth travel day.  In spite of all the luggage we were checking in, the attendant shared that it was the easiest international check-in that she had ever done.

All of our luggage arrived and we were waved right through customs in Guatemala without them even checking a single bag.  What an answer to prayer!
Checked in and ready to board our flight back to Guatemala.

Readjusting
We have been working hard to get settled back in and readjusted to life here.  It has been an easy transition so far.  We have made several trips to the store to get our home and kitchen restocked. We have had to have work done on the water pump, hot water heater, and our gate lock. Thankfully nothing major to be done but even the little things take more time here to complete.

In addition, David has been reconnecting with pastors and meeting with them. Pray for opportunities for them to minister together in the coming months.  This upcoming Sunday evening he will be preaching at a Lord's Supper service at a local Baptist church.  Pray for him as he shares.

The boys and I have been keeping busy with homeschool during the day. They were excited to get back to their extracurricular classes and see their friends at Encounter Academy.  This quarter they are taking P.E., Awana, and piano in the afternoons.

Traveling
Just this past weekend we made our first visit back to the Chiquimula area.  It felt great to be back on familiar turf, riding the mountain roads, and walking the village trails.  We spent our time making home visits and participating in the Sunday morning worship service in Nearar.  David did an excellent job preaching the sermon and encouraging the congregation there.

On an exciting note, they have four candidates ready for baptism.  We are planning a baptismal service for mid-March, once they complete their discipleship class.  Pray for these new believers as they take this next step in their faith.

Continue to pray for Pastor Rafael and his wife Luz as they lead the church.  We are very proud of the growth that we see in them.  Pray for wisdom, strength, and endurance as they carry out the work on a weekly basis.  Pray that they would not grow weary and would continue to see fruit from their labor.

Update for Visitors
Effective January 10, the requirements to enter Guatemala changed. Passengers who are neither Guatemalan citizens nor Guatemalan residents will be required to present both of the following:

  • For all travelers aged 12 and over: Evidence of receiving a complete two-dose COVID-19 vaccination course (or one dose for Johnson & Johnson), with the final dose being administered at least two weeks before beginning your trip to Guatemala; and
  • For all travelers aged 10 and over: Proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test from a certified lab conducted no more than three (3) days prior to check in at the airport or arrival at the land border.
In addition, the mask mandate is still in effect and has been since March 2020. Keep this in mind if you plan to visit us this year.  We will update if these requirements change.

Thank you for praying for us.  We look forward to this new term and seeing how God is going to work in and through us. Because you pray, you have a part in all we do.  Thank you!
