at the Guatemala City airport waiting to board our flight
Ben at the airport
He is growing up fast!
The guys walking out to board our flight. Like before, we flew TAG Airlines. It is only an hour and twenty minute direct flight from Guatemala to Tuxtla.
We enjoyed a beautiful moon view as we left Guatemala City.

Cruz took this picture and it makes me smile. While checking in for our flight we met a young couple from France that had a very active one year old son. I could tell from their faces that they were exhausted. My heart went out to them because we know that feeling from traveling with Cruz when he was young. Shortly after takeoff the dad was walking him up and down the isle to keep him busy and when he spotted me he reached out for me to hold him. He ended up sitting still in my lap the whole flight. The parents could not believe how calm he was being or that I was content to hold him. He was precious! The mom ended up getting to sleep the whole flight and the dad just relaxed. After landing we were able to share with them a little about what we do as missionaries in Guatemala and why we do it. It ended up being a great opportunity to be a witness to them. I have prayed for little baby Silas and his parents almost daily since. I have no idea where they'll end up in the world, but they will have my prayers as they go.
arriving at the Tuxtla airport
Our missionary colleagues picked us up and drove us about an hour away to the city of San Cristobal de las Casas where we spent the weekend visiting with them.

David's breakfast
Mid-morning the Richardsons picked us up from our hotel. They took us to El Arcotete, which is a local recreational park. We took a picnic lunch and a lot of rock climbing gear. We enjoyed a fun day of hiking, exploring, and rock climbing..
We returned to town late that afternoon and spent some time walking around. San Cristobal de las Casas is a beautiful city to explore!
We went inside one of the local cathedrals.
I love the details on this church building!

Cruz hat shopping.
We had breakfast at Carl's Jr. on Sunday morning before we were picked up for church.
As we waited to be picked up this Indigenous lady passed by. I was able to snap a photo of her dress. This is the Indigenous dress for one of the people groups there. Those skirts reminded us of a shag rug. They are all black and made from sheep hair.
We attended church with the Richardsons on Sunday morning.
They were having a Mother's Day recognition service and took a photo of all the moms at the end of the service.
We returned to the Richardson's house for a delicious lunch and spent the whole afternoon visiting and hearing more about their ministry and family life. Their youngest son's birthday was coming up so we had an early party for him.
We went for a long afternoon walk around their neighborhood and then spent some time throwing axes. It was our first time to do it and it was quite fun.
I even gave it a try. After numerous failed attempts and even a broken axe (oops), I finally stuck one. As you can see from this video I was quite surprised that I did it.

I am very glad our boys got to spend time with them.
Our family spent some time exploring on our own on Sunday night. We made another trip to the market to pick up some souvenirs and then enjoyed an Italian supper meal. I love that many of the restaurants there have sidewalk seating. It really is a fun little city!

While eating, we saw a couple walk by with their pets. The female was pushing a dog in a stroller, and the man was pushing a dog on a scooter. It was a crazy sight to see!
A beautiful view on Monday morning as we took one last stroll through town before leaving.
On our way back to the Tuxtla airport we made a stop in Chiapa de Corzo to do a boat ride through the Sumidero Canyon. It was beautiful!

We had a late flight and did not get back to our house until around 11:00 p.m. We were tired but filled with some amazing memories of a wonderful trip.
Would you take a few moments to pray for the Richardson family and the church planting work they are doing in Mexico? Pray that God would bless their efforts, open new doors to ministry opportunities, and strengthen existing work they are doing. Pray for wisdom to reach their people and for great relationship building among them. Pray for good health, safety, and protection as they travel long distances to share the gospel with their people.
