Here is a look at some of our homeschool activities during the month of October.
Cruz doing his morning devotion and working on his Awana lesson.
This school year I am playing an audio Bible during breakfast. We listen to a chapter a day while we eat. In October we finished 1 Corinthians and started working our way through 2 Corinthians. Cruz will give an oral summary of the book when we finish.
We prayed for four American Indian groups- the Natchez, the Choctaw, the Chippewa, and the Cree. We spend one week praying for each group. On Fridays we watch YouTube videos on them to help enhance our study.
Cruz reading a history lesson.
Ben reading along.
These were their literature books for October. They pair well with what we are learning in history.
Cruz doing a keyboarding lesson.
practicing spelling words
They practice them orally, written, and online using the a program called Learning A-Z. They take a test every Friday.
Cruz completed two modules in Science. One was on Astronomy and the other Geology and Paleontology. He had several fun experiments that went with his lessons.
He made a sundial and charted it from noon until dark and then continued the following morning until noon again.
He used chalk and sandpaper to learn about friction.
He made crystals.
Boiling alum to make crystals.
waiting patiently for them to form
He poured sand, dirt, and rocks into a jar and learned how water can separate the sediments into layers.
Ben's two Science chapters were on fish, sharks, and rays. Here he is doing a notebook activity labeling the parts of fish.
In addition we spend a good deal of time on math each day. They have daily grammar and vocabulary lessons. They also have weekly writing assignments from their IEW classes. Our days are full!
