Homeschool Days January 2022

I am very happy to be back in our school room surrounded by all of our resources and supplies.  It feels good!  We jumped right back into school after we returned to Guatemala mostly to establish a routine but also to stay on track.  I have a goal to finish by May and do not want to get behind.

Here is a look at a few of our activities from January.

First day of the second semester.
I have now officially taught Cruz for half of his school grades. Wow!!  That makes me feel extremely proud, but if you ask me how I have done it I will tell you that God gets all of the credit.  There is no way I could do this without him.  I claim Philippians 4:13 daily.

We are doing a missionary study during our Bible time.  We began January learning about the life and ministry of Elisabeth Elliot and ended the month with David Livingstone.  We will finish his study next week.  We listen to a chapter a day and have wonderful discussions afterwards.  I have truly loved this curriculum!

Also, we began learning a hymn a month.  January's hymn was Trust and Obey.  That seemed to be my theme song as we returned to the mission field this time.  I have sung these lyrics often in my mind over the past several months.

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet.
Or we'll walk by His side in the way.
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Ben working a math sheet.  He is currently doing long division.

Cruz working on his IEW writing assignment.

 Ben doing a science lesson.

For literature, Ben read Henry and Ribsy and Cruz read Old Yeller.

They like to do their reading on the couch.

In science we studied the atmosphere and did a few fun experiments.  Here they are making a cloud in a glass.

They were excited to return to their weekly Friday afternoon Awana class. We practice their memory verse each morning in school.

We also added piano to our schedule.  A sweet lady at Encounter Academy is teaching them.  They have a weekly lesson and then practice at home.  I added it to their daily school checklist so they have to complete it before they are officially done with school each day.

We are in a smooth routine and the transition from the States flowed very natural. I absolutely love homeschooling the boys.  It brings me great joy!  It also adds to my grey hair and wrinkles but I guess that is part of the package.
