Almost Done

Our school year is slowly but surely coming to an end.  We have this week and all of next week to go and plan to finish on Friday May, 20.  What a fun adventure it has been!

Here is a look at the past two weeks.  I have mentioned it before but I am recording all of our memories because I plan to have a book printed out of all my kindergarten posts.  It will make a wonderful keepsake of Cruz's school year.  I know these school posts can get long but it's more for my memories than anything else.

We began short vowel "u" in language.  We had three readers to cover and a lot of new vocabulary words.

The Duck Pond was one of our overall favorites.  It was such a cute story.  All of the readers that came with our curriculum have been fun.  We have been very pleased with our language curriculum choice- Sing Spell Read and Write.  We will continue it in the fall for 1st grade and I plan to use the K4 curriculum for Ben next year.

His fifth storybook was Russ and the Gift.  He liked this one too.

His favorite part of the book was this page.  He loved reading the sign The Big Bug Golf Club. He would laugh every time.

We are still reviewing in math.  We are covering the addition and subtraction facts for 0 and 1.  We are counting and writing to 100.  We are counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's.  We are reviewing place value, tally marks, and telling time.  We are practicing before and after numbers, missing numbers, and making the number ten.  He loves math and enjoys it very much.  We are also still doing XtraMath at the end of our lessons.

Working on place value.  This day he had a little help.

We finished out our Science lessons with a study on balance.  That was fun!

We made a scale using a ruler, yarn, tape, and an egg carton.  Both boys had a lot of fun putting things in it and trying to balance it out.

silly Cruz!

He also had an activity called Balancing Act.

Little Brother getting in on the balancing fun.

This activity was called Balance in Art.  He had to draw dots on one side of the line and then balance them out by drawing the same exact dots on the opposite side.  I have no idea why he chose to draw so many, ha.

We have loved our Science curriculum this year!  We used Exploring Science by Elemental Science.  It has been fun, easy, hands-on, simple to follow, and very educational.  Both of my boys have enjoyed it greatly.  I have often said it's like the icing on our homeschool day because of the fun it adds to our mornings.  I would definitely recommend it.  We plan to use their Intro to Science next year for 1st grade.

Our Bible lessons have covered The Last Supper, The Garden of Gethsemane, The Judgement Hall, and The Crucifixion.

Learning the names of the disciples.

Our memory verse was for letter Y- Ye are the light of the world.  Matthew 5:14.  Here is a video of Cruz saying it-

Our new song was "Whisper A Prayer".

What a great song to hide in their little hearts!  If there is one thing I have enjoyed more than anything this homeschool year it has been teaching my boys about God.  Oh how my heart longs for them to know Him, trust Him, and follow Him.  These are precious days with my boys and I am so thankful to have them!
