Greetings from Guatemala! To let you know just how busy we were during the month of June we will begin by saying that we only slept in our own bed eight nights the whole month. We spent almost two weeks in Guatemala City and Antigua getting a few check-ups, buying supplies, and attending an IMB mission meeting. We had a great time at mission meeting! While there we took part in a baby dedication for Cruz, received recognition and a pin for five years of service with the IMB, got to visit with many old friends and meet some new ones as well, and Cruz got to attend his first VBS.
During June we also made two vision trips to visit a possible new work area. We traveled seven hours one way to the town of Chiquimula which is in the southeastern part of Guatemala. We have been asked to begin working with an unreached people group in that area, the Ch'orti'. The Ch'orti' are one of the Mayan people groups that live in Guatemala and parts of Honduras. Our involvement with them is a huge prayer request that we have at this time. Not only will we try to start a work in that area, but we will also begin to do mobilization among the K'ekchi'. We will be presenting the work to them with the hopes that they would catch the vision and help us reach the Ch'orti'. It is a God-sized task, and definitely one that we could not begin to do apart from Him. Working in two people groups is going to be a challenge so we are asking you to please lift this endeavor up to the Lord for us.
This month we will be hosting a volunteer team from First Baptist Church, McKenzie, TN. Leading that group will be former K'ekchi' missionaries Al and Beth Bailey. Please be in prayer for us and this team July 7-12.
Our former supervisor, Jim McGriff, will be traveling back to Guatemala to do some leadership training for the K'ekchi' pastors. The studies will be held in Coban, Las Casas, and Sayaxche. Please pray for these study times and for the pastors that will be traveling to attend them.
On our last visit to the Ch'orti' area we spent several days traveling from village to village speaking with the village leaders trying to get permission to return and do some oral Bible storying. Two areas in particular were open to our returning and talking with the people. We plan to make a follow-up visit sometime during July, but are looking over our calendars trying to see when to squeeze it in. Please pray for this return visit. Pray specifically for the village of Lagunetas. There is no evangelical work in that village.
We look forward to the challenges that lie ahead. Please pray that we would not get overwhelmed or discouraged, but that we would seek the Lord for wisdom and direction in all we do. We have always counted on your prayers, and are definitely in need of them at this time. Until next time...
Sending our love,
David, Regina, and Cruz
