Homeschool Week 31

Here is a look at what we did in homeschool last week.

We are working our way through the Easter story in Bible.  Last week we covered the stories of The Garden of Gethsemane and The Judgement Hall.  We learned a new song "Sermon in Shoes".  Cruz had to recite his latest memory work Exodus 20: 3-5, 7-8, 12-17 (The 10 Commandments).  He began his new memory work for the month which will be to memorize Matthew 11: 28-30 and Matthew 22: 36-39.  These will be his last passages to learn for the school year.  I am so proud of all the scriptures he has learned this year.

One of Cruz's Bible worksheets.  He had to write two sentences about God's wonderful springtime.   He wrote: 1)  The flowers bloom.  2) We celebrate Jesus dying on the cross and raising from the dead.

Cruz has been busy in Language.  We have covered the sounds ing, ang, ong, ung, oi, ou, long oo, short oo, tion, and gh.  He has taken two assessment tests and his second achievement test of the school year.  He takes a daily spelling test and has sentences to write each day with his list.  We begin our lessons with a phonics song and end each day with a phonics game.  He has a story to read each day in school and then I have him reread his story every night before bed.  We are are still reading a chapter a day in the Little House book On the Banks of Plum Creek.  We should finish it up this week.

Ben learned the letter "U".  His memory verse for the week was Psalm 75:1:  "Unto thee, oh God, do we give thanks".  His nursery rhyme for the week was Little Boy Blue.  He is continuing to read through some of the beginner Bob Books and loves it.

Our History lessons were on the Civil War and the Gettysburg Address.

We learned about the State of Wyoming.

In Health we are continuing our series on manners.  This week we learned about having good manners in school.  At the end of the week the boys had to draw something they had learned.  Cruz drew himself saluting the flag during our Pledge of Allegiance and Ben drew about sharing.

Cruz's journal entries for the week:

My favorite sea animal is... the octopus.  The octopus can be over 20013 meters big.  They can be over 3405 long.  They have tentacles that can kill you.

Write a story about a green cat who eats a lot of ice cream.  "One day a green cat went to the beach and bought some green ice cream and then he went swimming.  The End."

In Art they drew a baby hippo.

I was sick all of last week so I felt like anything we accomplished in school was good.  It is hard when you are a mom and sick but even harder when you are the teacher and mom.  I didn't want to get behind so I pressed on each day to get our lessons covered.  I am getting better but still not 100%.  Pray that I can get over this cough/ congestion/ flu like sickness that has really taken me down.

Only five more weeks of school to go!  I cannot believe we are almost done.  It really is one of the greatest feelings of accomplishment I've ever had.
