2024-2025 Homeschool Curriculum

Here is a look at some of our curriculum choices for this school year.

For English Language Arts we are continuing to use Fix It! Grammar.  It consists of six books/ levels that we began in the fourth grade.  Cruz will be completing the final book (Level 6) this year.

We pair this with IEW writing lessons.  We like to use the themed based books.  This year Ben is studying Medieval History and Cruz is studying Ancient History.  They take these classes live online with Mrs. Jen Altman through Outschool. This will be our fifth year of writing classes with her.  She is fabulous!

Their literature books that they are reading that go along with their Medieval and Ancient history writing lessons. I love tying literature, writing, and history together.

We are continuing with Math U See.  We have used it every year since kindergarten.  For the second year in a row now, they will take math as a live online class through Veritas Press.  The classes meet twice a week for 1.5 hours each.  This year Cruz is studying Geometry and Ben is studying Pre-Algebra.  Last year the live classes were fantastic, and we are hoping for the same this year.

Apologia has been our steady Science for many years.  This year Cruz is taking Biology, and Ben is taking General Science. Cruz will be taking Biology as a live online class this year.  He is taking it through Apologia. The class meets once a week for 1.5 hours. In addition to getting to use a microscope, he will also be dissecting a frog, a crayfish, a perch, and an earthworm in the Spring. Hello High School!

As a Bible course, Cruz is taking this Foundations in Faith class by Masterbooks. It came highly recommended so I am hoping he enjoys it.

It includes this book Great for God: Missionaries Who Changed the World.  It shares the stories of twenty three missionaries who with bold faith, obedience to God, and love for others, attempted great things for God.  I love including missionary stories in our school days.

Cruz will be taking a World Geography and Cultures class the first semester.

For the second semester he will be studying Mississippi History.

For a Health and P.E. credit, Cruz is taking this new course that Not Consumed recently published.  It looks great, and I think he will really enjoy it.

They both take live online Spanish classes through Spanish Homeschool Academy.  Cruz is doing Spanish II this year.

In addition, Ben will be attending Encounter Academy one afternoon a week for Health, P.E., and art classes.  Cruz is also doing theater this semester with the Guatemala Academy of Performing Arts.  He will play young Theodore Laurence (Laurie) in the upcoming fall production of Little Women.

So far we are off to a great school year.  I look forward to all the fun and fascinating things the boys will learn over the next several months.
