The Last Few Days with our Summer Sojourners 2023

Here are a few photos of our last few days of hosting our Summer Sojourner 2023 students.  We spent the weekend at our mission house in Guatemala City.

On Friday night we walked to Panda Express for supper.  They were all still wearing their Camp Guamiski shirts because we had just picked them up from camp a few hours earlier.

after supper we played Phase 10 at our mission house

We spent Saturday at La Aurora Zoo and that evening at Eskala Mall.  While at the mall they picked up some tortillas at the grocery store.  They wanted to play a game called Tortilla Slap.  Each person has a mouth full of water and they take turns slapping each other in the face with a tortilla.  You can't laugh or spit out your water.  It sounded a little weird to me but they had a fun time playing it.

Sunday morning dressed and ready for church

The Stones and their three Summer Sojourner students had arrived at the mission house on Saturday night.  We all went to church together at Union Church in Guatemala City on Sunday morning.  There were seventeen of us total.  We took up three pews.

After church we all had lunch together at Denny's.

A group photo of all ten Summer Sojourner students and hosts.  We spent Sunday afternoon having a share and debrief time.  It was wonderful to hear how each of them had been impacted by their time here.  There was laughter and also many tears shed.

This had been a fantastic group.  I do not think I could have hand picked a better group to host.  They were everything I had prayed for and more. We called them the Dream Team. They got along perfectly and genuinely loved each other and us. They called us Mom and Dad and we considered them to be like our kids.  To say we were sad to let them go is an understatement.

They had served well and did everything we asked of them with a willing spirit.  We could not be more proud of them for their boldness and braveness.  God used them in mighty ways and I know He is going to continue to use them back home in the States.  We look forward to keeping in touch with them and seeing God's plans for their lives unfold.

Pray for these students.  Many feel a call to ministry and some to missions.  This trip helped confirm that for some.  Pray that they would clearly hear God's voice about their futures.

I am already looking forward to hosting again in 2024.  If you know a college age student who would like to come work alongside us like this group of seven did, please let us know. We would love to talk with them.
