May 2023 Newsletter

Easter
April was a month full of celebrations. We began by celebrating Easter with a special visit from Ms. Jane Parker and her daughter and son-in-law.  Ms. Jane is a retired IMB missionary who mentored us through our first term on the field. We enjoyed a few days with them and even squeezed in an early birthday cake for Ms. Jane.

We will always be grateful for those who served before us.  We are blessed with a great IMB legacy of missionary servants throughout the years here in Guatemala.  What a high honor it will always be to follow in their footsteps.

Fellowship
We celebrated Ben turning eleven with a backyard movie night with friends. It was a fun celebration for him.

During April the boys attended two other birthday parties with local friends.

Cruz began attending a youth group that meets on Wednesday nights.

We are thankful that in this season of life God has provided our boys with wonderful friendships and fellowship opportunities.

Anniversary
David and I celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary on April 27. We had a fun family outing that day and then enjoyed a date night that evening in town.

We are thankful for the years that God has blessed us with and look forward to many, many more together.
Holy Week
During Holy Week our Indigenous Cluster throughout the Americas had a special emphasis on prayer and evangelism.  Here are the results:

Gospel shares: 485 times
New believers: 5
Baptisms: 2
People in training and discipleship: 282
Persons impacted by human needs project: 37

What a joy to see how God was working throughout our region of the world that week!
Traveling
During April David and I made our first trip to Mexico to visit some of our Indigenous families who serve there.  We had a wonderful time and left feeling more excited about the opportunity that God has given us to work with these families.  We were humbled to meet them and hear about the great works that they are doing.  Having traveled their roads, been in their homes, and seen some of their ministry, we definitely feel better equipped to serve them.

In all we met with six missionary families that included seventeen MK's, two female Journeymen, and two male Hands On students.  Pray for these families, for God's protection over them, for their ministries, and wisdom to reach their people groups.
  • This month we will be making another trip to Mexico. We will visit a different family in a different area.  Pray for a safe trip and our time there as we encourage them in their work.
  • Our last day of school will be May 12!  We are excited to wrap up another great year of learning and look forward to some carefree summer days.
  • I will be the guest speaker at a Mother's Day event at a local church on Saturday, May 13.  Pray for me as I prepare and share what God has laid on my heart.
  • My weekly mom's group will be ending later this month.  We have three more Wednesday afternoons together before we break for the summer.  I am thankful for the group of ladies that God has surrounded me with and the opportunity to encourage each other and learn together.
  • On Friday, May 26 we will officially enter a new stage of parenting as Cruz will be turning 13! Any and all prayers are appreciated.
  • Also on Friday, May 26, our seven Summer Sojourner students will be arriving.  We are busy finalizing plans for their three week trip.  Pray for wisdom in the planning and that everything will come together as needed.  Pray for them as they are finishing their college semesters and preparing to come.  We will be hosting Isabella, Karsyn, Melanie, Olivia, Isaac, Mollie, and Trey.  They are coming from Mississippi, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina. We are excited and looking forward to being on mission together with them.

Without your prayers and financial support to the IMB we could not do what God has called us to do.  Thank you for giving!  Thank you for praying!  Thank you for being a faithful source of encouragement to us throughout the past sixteen years on the mission field!
