Earlier this month, we made our first visit to Irtra Petapa in Guatemala City. It is one of several theme parks that Irtra
has all over Guatemala. This particular park opened back in 1976. I
cannot believe we have lived in Guatemala all these years and never
visited it! It was such a fun day!! The park has been very well
maintained and actually surprised us at just how nice it was. Locally,
Irtra is referred to as the Disney of Guatemala. To make the day extra
special, we were joined by eight other missionary families. Getting to
enjoy the day with friends was a wonderful treat. The park was having an entrance special, which made the visit extra nice too. We loved our visit
there and hope to get to go back again one day. Here are a few photos I
took during the day-
Arriving at the park.
(We are wearing masks because Guatemala has had a constant mask mandate since March 2020. It is hard to imagine that for two solid years now you are not allowed to leave your house without a mask. There are still temperature checks and hand gel stations at every establishment you enter.)
The park opens at 9:00 but the rides do not start until 10:00. To pass the time, we walked through the zoo area and also played on the Dinosaur themed playground.
We were fascinated by the peacocks.
They are beautiful creatures.
Ready to ride...
This was a favorite ride for most everyone.

A ride that includes water guns is always popular.

They lost count on how many times they rode the bumper cars. They would get off and get right back on over and over. The park was not crowded at all that day so the lines were very short. That meant we got to ride everything numerous times.
The theming at the park is extremely cute. They really did a great job designing it.
We rode there together with the Contreras family. After a full day at the park, we drove over to Cayala for coffee before making the drive back to Antigua. We had never been, so they enjoyed showing us around. Cayala is a newer upscale part of Guatemala City. It is a beautiful area.
