May 2021 Newsletter

Life Lately
Greetings from Guatemala!  It has been a few months since I last sent out a newsletter.  Things have been slower around here than we would have wanted.  We have had to cancel three visits to the Chiquimula area due to COVID cases and sickness.  Many in the Nearar area have been sick including our pastor Rafael.  Thankfully, he is recovering well.  We were really hoping to make more visits there before our Stateside Assignment but it did not work out.  Pray for full recovery for all the ones who have been sick.

In the meantime, David has made several visits with pastors in our local area.  He has attended a few church services as well.  We are trying to make our rounds to say goodbye before we step away for a while.
Homeschool
The boys and I have been busy finishing out the school year.  Our last day of class will be next Friday, May 14.  We are looking forward to a fun summer break in the U.S.  Here is a link to a recent homeschool blog post to see what we have been doing in school lately- Homeschool Days April 2021.
Traveling
We just recently returned from a family trip to the U.S. to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.  We visited three national parks while there - the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and Zion.  It was an amazing trip!  I will be posting about it on my blog in the coming days if you would like to read about it.
Coming Up...
We are getting ready to host a small media team mid-month.  It is a combined effort between the IMB and Lifeway.  The 2022 Lifeway VBS missions material will be featuring Guatemala and our family.  How exciting is that? We plan to show them around local areas as well as make a trip to see our work in Nearar.  Pray for a great week together.  Pray that everything will go smoothly.  Pray for good health and safety of travel on the road.
The Countdown Is On
The months have turned into weeks and we are now counting down the days.  This term of service is quickly coming to an end.  By the time we send out our next newsletter we should be back home in Mississippi starting our Stateside Assignment.  We are looking forward to some time of rest as well as time of fellowship and connection with many of you while there.  If your church, Sunday School class, small group, women's group, etc. would like us to share, please let us know.  We would also enjoy just catching up in person over a cup of coffee or a meal.

Pray for us as we finalize things here, say our goodbyes, and prepare to step away for an extended break.  Although we are excited about our time in the U.S., leaving our field of service is not as easy as you might think.  The transition to life in the U.S. is hard on missionaries.  Pray for us over the next few weeks and months to adjust well.
Thank You
We have most definitely felt your prayers many times over this past term.  We have faced a lot of change since returning from our last Stateside Assignment back in February 2018.  We had a major move, took on new job roles, and then rode out COVID here in country.  None of those things were easy, and you prayed us through them all.  We cannot thank you enough for your prayers and the encouragement you offer to us.  Thank you for coming alongside us in this journey.  We could not do it without you!!! Hope to see you soon and thank you in person!
