Bryce Canyon National Park Day 2 (Road Trip out West Post 9)

We began our morning with a buffet breakfast at the hotel.  We then checked out and headed to the park.

We loved Bryce Canyon!  The scenery was very different from the Grand Canyon and Zion.  It is a beautiful place to see.

We saw a lot of deer as we entered the park.

My little Junior Ranger reading through his book.

On our first day at Bryce Canyon we drove around to all of the lookouts to see the views from above.  Our goal for day 2 was to do a morning hike down a few trails to see the views from below.  We parked at Sunrise Point and walked the rim trail to Sunset Point.  From there we hiked down the Navajo trail to Queens Garden Trail.  We looped back up to Sunset Point and then walked the rim trail back to our car.  It was around three miles in all.

The tall pillars of rock are called hoodoos.

At one point, the trail makes a zigzagged pattern down to the bottom. We had seen videos of it and were looking forward to getting to hike it.

As we were hiking we were looking for these medallions.  We had to take photos with them to show to the park rangers.

There was a prize for finding them.

It was really cool to get to walk around among the hoodoos.  It was a highlight of my trip.

It was such a gorgeous day!!

We walked around the Bryce Lodge before returning to our car.  There was still some snow on the ground in spots.

Reporting back to the park ranger about our hike.

Because we completed the three miles and found 2 medallions we all received this fun sticker that says "I hiked the hoodoos!"

We had a fun picnic lunch before leaving the area.  We love having picnics and especially when the scenery is as beautiful as that.

We left Bryce and drove towards Zion that afternoon.  It is less than two hours away and the landscape is spectacular.  I will share about our afternoon at Zion next.
