Christmas Day 2019

Christmas morning started at 5:40 for us.  This was despite the boys staying up until almost 11:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve (and us not getting to bed until around 1:00 a.m.). Sigh!

After starting a full pot of coffee we all headed into the living room to start opening gifts.

They were so excited!!!

They immediately got busy seeing what they got from us and family.  It was mostly Nerf and Lego this year.

LED lights to put around his bed.

After they spent some time playing I helped them notice a note stuck on the back of the tree.  It began a little scavenger hunt to find a big surprise gift that we had for them this year.  Here are the clues I had hidden for them.

Cruz reading the first clue.

I had them going upstairs, downstairs, inside and outside.

The last clue was taped on a box we slipped under the tree.

They opened the box to first find a letter that told all about their gift.

Cruz reading the letter out loud.  Look at Ben's surprised face.

They then emptied the box.  Inside they found brochures, t-shirts, and a countdown chain.  They have wanted to visit Legoland for many years but we have not been able to make that happen.  Well, we have a work trip to Florida planned in 2020.  We will be going a little early for some family fun.  One of the things we'll be doing is taking them to Legoland.  We are all very excited! (even though we'll have to wait a little while to enjoy it).

Did you know Legoland has Homeschool Days?  They offer deep discounts to homeschool families on select days throughout the year.  We were excited to learn about that deal.

Eat, Sleep, Build, Repeat
That pretty much sums up their Lego loving lives.

They eventually settled down long enough to eat breakfast.  I always make these Eggo waffle Christmas trees for breakfast on Christmas Day.  They are quick, simple, and fun.

They spent the rest of the morning playing and I spent the morning in the kitchen finishing up our Christmas lunch.  I always cook a big Christmas meal.  This year we had turkey, carrot souffle, macaroni & cheese, Lima beans, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, rolls, and leftover cake from Christmas Eve.

We all took a much needed nap that afternoon.  We had leftovers for supper, shot more fireworks that evening, drank a lot of hot chocolate, and played Skip Bo until bedtime.  We stayed in our pajamas all day long and I am not even ashamed to say it.   I'd say we had ourselves a merry little Christmas.
