picnic and play time at the park with these silly boys
We are starting to meet some of the other children that live around our neighborhood. One afternoon last week several of the boys showed up to play. There is a large open parking lot on the office property where we are still temporarily living and it is perfect for bikes and scooters. They spent the whole afternoon riding and playing together. It has been good for the boys to make some local friends.
One of them brought this little motorcycle. They all loved taking turns on it.
While out buying snacks for our road trip I spotted a childhood favorite snack Jiffypop. I could not resist buying some so the boys could experience watching it pop. I also found a Nehi peach soda. That was another childhood favorite. We had these for snack one morning during school.
I let them take turns shaking it.
so much fun!
We were able to squeeze in another field trip with our homeschool group on Thursday. We spent the morning at the Natural Science Museum and the afternoon touring the State Capital.

Before leaving we stopped by the museum gift shop to let the boys pick out something. While they were looking around I found a little something for myself. I love cookbooks and this one looked especially good. There are several things I am going to try out in the weeks ahead.
We had our lunch picnic at the science museum and then let the kids pass a little time playing at Riverside Park before our afternoon tour.
In the afternoon we had an amazing tour of our Mississippi State Capital building. We had never been so it was a first for all of us.

We got to meet the Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann and tour his office. He did a great job sharing with the children and telling them a little bit of State history.

our group in the House of Representatives
We got a tour of the House of Representatives from Rep. Vince Mangold. He represents Lincoln County where our homeschool group is from. We grew up in the same hometown (Hazlehurst) so it was good to see him again.
The Mississippi Senate
We ended the tour with a history lesson/ story time from our wonderful tour guide. It was a very educational experience and we all learned a lot of history about our State. I really enjoyed this tour!
We stopped by the gift shop before leaving. In December Mississippi will celebrate it's 200th birthday. How exciting is that! I purchased this beautiful Christmas ornament as a souvenir from our tour but also to commemorate the birthday celebration.
We were so tired by the time the field trip ended but as the saying goes "no rest for the weary". We left the Capital and got on the Interstate to begin a two week road trip. We made it to Montgomery, AL before stopping for the night. We are having an amazing trip and I'll try to start posting about it in the days ahead.
