On Tuesday night we had the great pleasure of hosting a former missionary in our home for dinner. Mr. Ellis Deibler is a retired Wycliffe Bible translator, although like most missionaries he is still actively serving. He is about to end a month long stay with the Lubeck's here in Guatemala. He came to help them with some back translation on their latest Chorti project- the books of Proverbs and 1 Samuel. He is scheduled to return to the States next week.
It was an honor to have him at our table to hear his stories about his life, his call to missions, and his testimony. He is a very interesting man and we enjoyed getting to visit with him.
I cooked meatloaf, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, English peas, and a lemon cake. After the boys went to bed we also enjoyed some ice cream while we played a game of Phase 10. That was fun!
We love hearing stories about life on the mission field years ago. Although we might do without a few comforts, it reminds us that we have it pretty good these days. It also makes us grateful to those who have served before us, and paved the way for those of us who serve today. We have a great love and appreciation for those like Mr. Deibler, Miss Fran, and the Lubeck's who have given their lives to translate God's Word into the heart language of the people. What an honor to know them and call them our friends.
our family with Mr. Deibler
