Last Friday we kicked off a stove project in the Guatemalan village of Lagunetas. It was led by the Chorti Baptist Development Project in Honduras. It is an extension of the agricultural program that many from this village just completed and graduated from. On Friday we installed one stove as an example. The students then led out in installing four more on Saturday. The group was responsible for picking the first five recipients. In the coming weeks the other five students will receive their stove. The Institute will provide the supplies and the students will do all of the labor. The Institute is funded in part by private donations but also is partly funded by the Baptist Global Response project. You can read an article HERE about the partnership between BGR and the Ag Center in Honduras. Our part is to help them get into villages in Guatemala and then return to do follow-up with sharing the gospel through Bible Storying. It has been a blessing to see how God has brought us all together and are thankful for the great working relationship we have together!
Here are a few photos from the weekend-
some of the supplies
This is a picture of the first kitchen we installed a stove in. They had to have a platform built for the stove before we arrived. Most all of the houses in this village are adobe.
Many of the agricultural students and a few more onlookers watching the installation take place.
Mauricio works for the Ag Center in Honduras and tought them how to install the stoves.
Cruz had a fun time running, playing, and getting into everything he could get his little hands on.
In front- Mauricio In back- Dan Watson who oversees the agricultural center in Honduras, Mr. Perry Smith who designed the stove that we used, Leonardo and Dionicia the first recipients, and Mr. Harold Watson (Dan's dad) a retired IMB missionary who did agricultural work for many, many years in the Philippines. He also helped start the work in Honduras.
Another family that got a new stove
It might not look like much, but it sure brought a lot of smiles to many faces and greatly improved their quality of life. If you would like to give and support projects such as this around the world be sure to visit
