Thursday was one of those days where you just sit back and say, "God worked that out". It started a few months ago when we received an e-mail from a pastor at a Southern Baptist church in Washington state. He has a group from his church that has been coming to Guatemala for several years and wanted to connect them with us. He passed our email address and blog information on to some of them and we began communicating. They wanted to get together with us while they were here. They arrived last weekend and will be here almost two weeks doing different types of ministry mostly in the Coban and Chisec areas. They sent us their agenda and we saw where they would be staying the night in Chisec on Thursday. We wanted to make plans to see them there, but were not able to get in touch with them once they arrived in country. We've been debating all week about whether or not to just go blindly and try to find them. Even Thursday morning we were still trying to decide about it.
Well, on Wednesday at the pastor's conference, a pastor, Bro. Oscar, asked me if I would visit the local hospital on Thursday morning and pray with one of his members. She was a young pregnant girl there having some complications. She is full term but started having some problems over the weekend and came into Sayaxche' on Monday to see a doctor (she lives about an hour away). They admitted her and said they would keep her until she had the baby. Well, when we got there to visit and pray with her we found out that they were sending her home. He mom and young husband were also there as well as Bro. Oscar. We still visited and prayed for her. What's neat about this is that she lives in the village of Cruze el Pato. This village is alongside the main road about thirty minutes from Chisec. We had been debating about whether to go to Chisec or not and when we found this out we decided to go. We offered to give this family a ride home on our way. It worked out perfect. Once we dropped them off we joked a bit about what would we have done if she had gone into labor in our car, haha. We thanked the Lord that it did not happen. She will most likely have the baby at home now. We told the family to call us, so if they do we'll try to visit again and maybe get a photo of the newborn to post.
We headed on our way and stopped at a local place to eat a bite of lunch. We then headed on to Chisec. We were thinking that it was crazy because we most likely would not just run in to them. We made a loop through town and then stopped at the big hotel there to use the bathroom and see if a group of Americans had reservations. They didn't. We got a bottle of water and some sweet bread and sat down for a moment. We had just about decided to return home when I looked out the window and saw two trucks with tarps covering the back go by. They had the windows rolled down and I could see North Americans inside. I knew that had to be them. There is a new hotel just outside of town and we thought they surely must be headed there. We loaded up and went that way. Sure enough, we found them! When we walked up the lady in the group said "are you David" and "you must be Regina'". They recognized us from our blog. We had a WONDERFUL visit with them and were soo pleased that we were able to meet. We all felt like the Lord just allowed our paths to cross that day. It was fun for us to fellowship with them. It made us miss having volunteers around.
We came away encouraged from both visits and thankful for new friendships that were made that day- both American and Guatemalan.

I came across your blog from FTLOB! :) How cool! A mission in Guatemala. I served a mission in Brasil and hope to serve again someday.
ReplyDeleteJust remember things will always work out, no matter what.
HUGS to you!!! http://www.joyfuljones.com
God is full of surprises. We had two today. New believers from Cahabon came to our house to visit and share lunch with us. A young Kekchi woman came to ask us what to do about a call to missions that she has had since a child. Where does she begin in preparing herself? Our mission director is visiting just now. What perfect timing!
ReplyDeleteHow terrific that you found them! I think it is so admirable what you do. Serving a mission must be so rewarding! I will definitely be back!
ReplyDeleteHi there! I'll have to come back and take a better look around. Following you now from the weekend wander! Have a blessed day!
