He's a Bouncer

First of all, we can't believe how quickly Cruz is growing and changing.  These photos were taken about two weeks ago and he seems so different now.
He really likes his bouncy seat and that makes us happy.
Just this week he has begun to reach out and touch the toys.  Last night I recorded this video of him playing.  He sat real good in it and watched me cook supper and his dad do homework.

Cruz's Birth Video

When we think back on the miracle of our little boy all we can say is GOD IS GOOD! His will and timing are perfect and He always knows what's best for His children. He has taught us so much about trusting Him and waiting on Him. We serve an awesome God!

Ministry Update

Last week our work team hosted a conference in Coban for the national K'ekchi' missionaries.  David and I were not able to attend because we are in language school (and 5 hours away) but I wanted to send out the update from the conference that our supervisor sent to us.  We miss working with these great men and look forward to finishing school and getting back to walking the trails with them.
Here are some highlights of the conference:
There was joyful worship and singing as 15 of the total 17 Kekchi Baptist Missionaries attended the conference. They represent several large geographic regions and rarely see each other for times of fellowship. We observed a sweet Spirit of unity and love as they talked and laughed together.

They did an in depth study of Joshua 7 concerning Achan's sin and its devastation to God's peple and His mission for them. They made some wonderful applications and agreed that sin must be dealt with and erradicated before they could have God's Power to share the Good News and see their friends saved.

Wendall and Jane presented the "Evangecube" as a means of presenting Christ to individuals or small groups. To our surprise, it made a big hit with them, and they spontaneously began doing dramas depicting the use of the cube to share the Gospel in many different settings. Now we have to order 17 Evangecubes.....ha!

During 3 ample sessions of prayer, each missionary shared his heart for his family, his health and the new believers as well as lost people in his sector of service. Most of them told of serious health problems that hampered their service and lamentented having so many invitations to preach in unreached communities that health, time and funds did not allow them to respond to all. Some of the older missinaries said, "We are wearing out....and who will take our place?"....a sobering thought!

There may be as many as 900,000 Kekchi who have not yet heard the Good News in a way they can understand. Please pray for them and the lostness that still looms large in this people group.

1 Month Update

Cruz, you are one month old today!
by the look on your face it seems you are just as shocked as we are at how fast you are growing!  :-)

This past month has flown by, and almost seems like one long blur.  It has been the most fun we've had in a long time.  We are loving being your mom and dad and taking care of you.  You are such a sweet baby and we LOVE having you in our lives!

WHAT ARE YOU UP TO THESE DAYS?
*  you LOVE to eat!  you are a great nurser and want to eat all the time
you weighed 8 lbs. 5 ozs. at your 12 day check-up and we are almost certain you are over 9 lbs. now
you make all sorts of noises.  We say you are like an old man the way you moan, grunt, and clear your throat.  We laugh often listening to you.
you are just starting to like your bath time, but not getting your hair washed.  You poop EVERY night on the tub sponge and on your towel.  We love how you smell right after your bath!
*  you are outgrowing your newborn clothes and wearing more 0-3 month sizes.  This is making me sad!
*  just this week we moved you up to a size 1 diaper.  Mostly because we ran out of newborn ones and instead of buying more we moved you up.  This made me sad as well.
you have had many outings lately.  You visited the zoo in Guatemala City and have been to several eating places.  So far you've been to McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Dominos, Pizza Hut, Fridas (Mexican), Las Palmas (International), Tre Fretelli's (Italian), Vino y Queso (Italian), and TGI Friday's (American).
*  you love to be outdoors and your dad loves to take you.
you like to be carried in your sling
*  you sleep pretty good.  We try to give you a bath around 7, then feed you, and put you down between 8- 8:30.  You will "usually" go for 6 hours between feedings and then go another 3-4 hours.  The exception to this was week 3 when you hit a growth spurt and you nursed A LOT.  I was glad when you passed it!  During the day you go no longer than three hours between feedings and you nap well.  We love to sit and watch you sleep.  You make the funniest faces and it makes us smile.
you recently had both of your grandmothers come to visit you as well as your aunt and cousin.  They all loved you and you enjoyed them as well.
*  you have gas OFTEN.  I feel bad when you scream with a tummy ache.  I am trying to watch what I eat and avoid things that I know hurt you.
*  you have a love/ hate relationship with your paci.  If you are full and content or sleepy, you will take it, othewise you scream at the thought of us putting it in your mouth.  We have tried several different kinds but the only one you will take is the Soothie.
you LOVE to be rocked and we love to rock you!
*  you get the hiccups several times a day and this makes you very mad.

*  you are very alert and look around at everything.
you are very snuggly and we love to hold you.  You are going to be (or already are) very spoiled.

You are a precious gift and we love you beyond measure.  We have treasured each day so far and look forward to an adventurous life ahead with you.  We love this infant stage and will be sad to see it pass.  You are a joy and we are honored to be your mom and dad!
(enough with the mushy stuff he says)

And here you were a month ago:

My Little Treasure

God made little boys it seems,

to answer every parents dreams.

For expectations are begun

when He sends down a little son.

A son to teach the golden rule,

to watch as he goes off to school.

To marvel at his happy face,

every time he wins a race.

Playing tricks and funny pranks,

learning to say "please" and "thanks".

Yes, God brings parents endless pleasure,

when He sends a little boy to treasure.

Future Playmates

Corina, Cruz, Josue, Rebecca, Kaitlin, me, and David
We recently stopped by our mission house in Guatemala City to introduce Cruz to the caretakers that live there.  If you follow us much you know that we love the kids that live there.  We have watched them grow and have enjoyed being a part of their lives.  Now we look forward to Cruz growing up and having them for friends and sharing his life with them.

Cruz's First Trip to the Zoo and First Trip to Friday's

On Father's Day we made a visit to the zoo in Guatemala City.  It was our second time to go and we knew David's family would enjoy it.  It is a nice, clean, well-maintained zoo!

Larsen

which one of these is not like the other ones?

After the zoo we went to eat at TGI Friday's.  It was Cruz's first of many trips there.  He slept the whole time despite the LOUD noise from the soccer fans there to watch the game.

David's family is flying home today.  They had a great visit!  We are all going to miss them.  I know Cruz will especially be missing the loving, hugs, and kisses he has been getting the last few days.  Poor baby is spoiled rotten!
