Shopping for the Baby

I recently spent an afternoon shopping with my parents mostly for the baby.  We found several stores having sales and many clearance racks.  I am quickly learning that there is way more girl stuff than boy stuff in stores, but in spite of this, we still found lots of good deals.

A few things I picked up

The weather in Guatemala is typically spring like year round, hince the name "land of eternal spring".  Where we will be living (Sayaxche) will be HOT year round.  We have heard it called the "land of eternal July".  Because of that we are mostly getting summer clothes for the baby in all sizes.

This was one of my favorite purchases.  He is not even here yet and I am already planning for his first birthday.  Can you tell we are a little excited??

I also loved this outfit!

Monday night we had another childbirth class.  We are enjoying these and are learning a lot.  This week they showed us all the care packages the hospital gives to the mothers.  After the class they gave all the things to us because we don't plan on being here for the birth.  We plan on breastfeeding but they gave us the gift for nursing and bottle feeding moms.  WOW!  We could not believe it, but were very thankful!  What a blessing.

We hope to get registered soon and will post to let everyone know once we do it.  We haven't yet figured out just what all we want to take back, what we might want to purchase there, and what we will learn to live without.  It's not as easy as you might think!

  1. So fun! I love the plaid shorts! Yes there is sooo much more stuff for girls, now I'm thinking it makes it easier. I can't wait till next August when all the warm weather clothes go on sale again. It is so hard to know what you are going to need when it's your first baby. We have no idea lol! Thanks for sharing photos of all the goodies you found!

  2. I like the striped sweater. I love stripes on boys. And the navy and green are cute too. One thing I found as a new mother was that you can never have enough bibs and burp clothes. A lot of what goes down tends to come back up. And also, sleepers that snap all the way down seemed to be easier to deal with during night time feedings than those that zipped. Now as for nursing - you are on your own there. Good luck. We are so happy for y'all and little you-know-who.

  3. All those things are so cute! When my brother was born, the only thing they ever had for boys involved dinosaurs or sports.

  6. This is very un-PC, but since this is your first you might want to exchange some clothes for varying sizes...often new moms get a bunch of clothes for the 0-6 mos and then when life is back to normal and no one is throwing showers anymore you find you have no clothes for the fast-growing crumb cruncher. If the pacas in your part of the country is anything like it is here, you won't have trouble finding good baby clothes from the US at 1/3 the price, but keep in mind those babies grow quickly.
