Homeschool Days October 2021

Here is a snapshot of our school life during the month of October.

They begin their mornings with devotion.  We then eat breakfast and get ready for school.  We try to start by 8:00 every day.

During the month of October we studied the life and ministry of Corrie Ten Boom.  What an amazing woman she was.  Our study focused on forgiveness and the importance of it. There have been many conversation topics and teachable moments that have come out of this missionary study series that we are doing.  I am thoroughly enjoying it.

We do math right after Bible.  I feel like it is best done early in the day when their minds are still fresh.

Ben working a Fix It! Grammar lesson. This is a four day curriculum, which I love.  That gives us one day a week, usually Fridays, to not have it on our schedule.

Here he is under the table working a daily spelling lesson.  He was probably quiet so I allowed it.

Ben began his online IEW writing class in October.  It is an introductory class to the IEW concepts.  They are using Aesop's fables for their writing topics.  He has a one hour class every Monday and then has the rest of the week to work on his keyword outline and paper.

Cruz's online IEW writing class meets on Tuesdays.  He has an outline and paper to submit each week as well.  His lessons focus on ancient history.  Here he is on his call while on our recent trip to Florida.  We have done school on the road a lot this semester, and thankfully it has worked well for us.

Looking for new reading material at the local library.

In September, Ben began reading the Ralph mouse series.  He started with The Mouse and the Motorcycle.  During October he read Runaway Ralph.  He will read Ralph S. Mouse next.  He has really enjoyed this series.

Cruz began reading the Narnia series.  This was book #1 that he recently completed.

Cruz has also been reading through this series of books learning all about the military.

We covered a lot of fun topics in science.  We did a rock study and made crystals.

They had to sit overnight.

We made quick cooling edible igneous rocks using ice cream and chocolate chips.

We used Starburst mini candies to visualize sedimentary rocks.

Shortly after our study of soil, I found these great handouts at an Ag display at the Mississippi State Fair.  They talked about soil types in Mississippi.  It went great with our science and Mississippi history studies.

We did a pumpkin patch field trip and a kick ball field day with our homeschool group.  They are also continuing to do tennis lessons with the group.
