April 2018 Newsletter

Greetings from Guatemala!  We have been back on the field six weeks  today.  What a busy six weeks it has been.   March was a full but wonderful month of ministry.  We were able to make visits in all of our target areas.  In addition to visits, we had two Sunday services in Nearar, one Sunday service in Muyurco, and one Sunday service in El Palmar (near Zacapa).  We also had three Wednesday afternoon Bible studies with the ladies in Nearar.  We have been spending our Sunday nights at Iglesia Shalom in Chiquimula with Bro. Fito.  We do not do any teaching or leading there.  We just go to worship and have fellowship with the congregation.  It is great to be able to do that and just go to church as a family.

Beginning this month we will start back having a weekly Bible study in the village of Muyurco on Thursday afternoons.  This Bible study includes families from both Muyurco and neighboring Porto Suelo.  Our plan is for David to teach the adults and for me to teach the children. Pray for us as we get this Bible study back going and for the witness that it will be in the village.

We focused a lot of our time this past month on the village of Nearar.  We have been working hard to encourage the leaders there and assist them in the work.  They have come a long way and it encourages our hearts to see them leading and serving together.  Just this past weekend we had a special outreach service there.  They planned it for Thursday night but a storm came through and took the power out.  We rescheduled it for Saturday night.  We had a great turnout.  We showed a film and afterwards had a great presentation of the gospel.  Many stayed around afterwards to ask questions and some even returned the next day for our Easter Sunday morning service.  David taught on the resurrection and again presented the gospel.  We know that God is working in the hearts of the people there.  Pray for boldness to make public professions of faith.   Pray for Rafael who is leading the work there and for his wife Luz who is assisting him.

Homeschool keeps us really busy.  It takes a lot of my time and energy.  We have seven more weeks to go before we wrap up the school year.  Pray for me as I teach the boys each day that I would do it well.    Since returning from the States we have added a Spanish curriculum to our already full homeschool schedule.   Ben has also started working with a Spanish tutor one day a week.  Pray that both boys would get a better understanding of the language and begin to communicate more effectively in it.

We have been trying to make one day a week a family day.  This past month we visited a local circus, went swimming a few times, and also enjoyed some fun meal outings.  Some of these activities were done with missionary friends.  It has been good to make our rounds to some of our favorite local places.  This past weekend we had an outdoor family movie night and the boys had their first backyard campout.  They had the best time!  We told them they could stay up as late as they wanted.  They laughed and giggled until around 11:00 p.m.  Of course they were up with the sun the next morning and thought we needed to get up with them too.  It was a really fun memory for them and they are already asking to do it again soon.

Easter Sunday 2018

We are looking forward to this new month.  Ben will turn six on the 16th and we will be celebrating our 22nd wedding anniversary on the 27th.  We are excited about both of these occasions.

We are also excited about all of the opportunities we will have to share Christ this month.  Pray for us as we travel the mountains and share the good news.  Pray for receptive hearts of the people we will encounter.  Pray for our weekly Bible study times (Sunday morning, Wednesday afternoon, and Thursday afternoon).
