Homeschool Week 32: Nails, Snails, and Laying Rails

Here is a look at homeschool week 32-

In Bible we continued our study of the Easter story.  This week we focused on the Crucifixion and the Resurrection.  Our new song for the week was "With Christ in the Vessel".

an Easter craft Cruz made

we sang this song every day

In Language Cruz focused on the sounds -all, ar= or, dge, ue, x= cks, ie= long e, ea=  long a, and ea= short e.  He had eight stories to read that reviewed these sounds.  His grammar lessons reviewed A-B-C order, er and est, and syllables.

Ben learned the letter "V".    His memory verse for the week was John 16:23 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name He will give it you".    His nursery rhyme for the week was Hickory Dickory Dock.

"V" is for vase

Cruz's math lessons were on Subtraction -6.  Ben is counting and writing his numbers.  We do a lot of fun activities to practice those.

In History we learned about the Transcontinental Railroad. They really enjoyed this lesson because they both love trains.  We watched several videos about how train tracks are built both by hand and by machine.

Cruz's drawing of a train on the new railroad passing through an old town.  I love that the only building he labeled was a coffee shop.  He has learned what to look for when traveling.  ha

We learned about the State of Utah.

In Science we studied invertebrates specifically looking at earthworms and snails.  We watched several videos and learned a lot.

Our activity was called "Snail Trails".   They took a piece of yarn dipped in paint and ran it across a piece of paper.  It was to resemble the trail that a snail leaves behind.

In Art they drew a baby duckling.

Ben likes to draw silly on purpose because it makes his brother laugh.  They giggle on these art activities more any other time of the week.

Another art activity we did was making spring flowers out of coffee filters and cupcake holders.

using watercolor paints to decorate their coffee filters

they both love arts and crafts!

Cruz's journal entries for the week-

Write three things about a big turtle who can sing.  "One day a big blue turtle went to go sing at a contest.  He won it.  He sang a song about a chicken.  The End."

"Why we celebrate Easter because we celebrate Jesus dying on the cross and raising from the dead.  And he is alive today".

Pick an animal to write about.  "It is slimy.  He moves back and forth.  He has sharp teeth.  My animal is a snake."

We spent the week in Health learning about having good manners at church.  At the end of the week they had to illustrate something that they had learned.  I wish I could say that I didn't have to have a lesson review on Sunday morning during our service but as the saying goes "boys will be boys".

I'll end with a video of Cruz practicing piano.  He still loves taking lessons and goes every Tuesday afternoon.  They have a semester exam every three months.  They are given a song to learn that is a little challenging and at the end of the semester they have to play it before a group of fellow students, parents, and teachers.  His next exam is April 25.  His song is called "The Wise Man and the Foolish Man".  We had been singing that song in our Bible class so he was very familiar with it when they assigned it to him.  I treat piano like it is part of our school day.  He has to practice every day and just considers it his music class.  He is learning so much and it is a joy to watch him play.

Thumbs up for another great homeschool week!
