Letters M and N

Here is a look at our week 11 of homeschool.  We had a team this week so I did a four day school week instead of our normal five.  We were doing media ministry at night with the team so the boys and I stayed home and did school in the mornings while the team made some door to door visits.  We would go out with them in the afternoons and nights.  It worked out well for all of us.

Our letters of the week were M and N.  We began on Monday by learning about monkeys.

I made these monkey cupcakes for our snack time

We also learned about monsters.  Here is Cruz cutting out a letter M for a monster craft.

M is for monster

How cute are these monster sandwiches we had for lunch!

We learned M for Motorcycle and also the nursery rhyme "Little Miss Muffet"

Tuesday began with a fun pancake breakfast shaped like a mouse.

We learned "Three Blind Mice" and made this cute craft.  In our evening read aloud time we began reading Beverly Cleary's The Mouse and the Motorcycle.  My little guys are loving it!

Their favorite part of the week was watching monster truck videos on you tube.

I made these mouth snacks for morning break.  We also enjoyed marshmallows and M&M's.

On Wednesday and Thursday we learned letter N.  We began by learning that N is for noodle.

Our theme on Thursday was nighttime.  We smeared blue glitter paint on paper to make a night scene.

N is for nighttime.  We also learned about nests and nails.

Our science lessons were about fans.  We did several fun experiments about the way fans move air.
We had to cut a shape out of newspaper.  Cruz cut a fish.  We then took a book and had to fan it and keep it from falling on the floor.  That was hard work.

He then held his fish over a fan and watched it float in the air.

And who could resist letting their hair blow in the air.

Another day we made a fan out of cardstock.  We also decorated paper towel rolls.  Afterwards we had races in our hallway fanning the roll over the finish line.

This was fun!

My silly boys with their fans.

Our nature walk for the week had us looking for things to blow with our fans.

This is what the boys collected.

The boys using their fans to see which objects are moved by the air.

Watching a Magic Schoolbus episode about air while I cooked lunch one day.

Our Bible stories were about Joseph.  We learned the songs "Always Say Thank You" and "Little Children Pray".  Our memory verse was a long one.  We began memorizing Psalms 100.  Our curriculum gives us a verse each week to learn and four long passages to learn over the school year.  This was our second long passage.  The first was Matthew 6:9-13- The Lord's Prayer.  I think Cruz did great saying his verse after only studying it for four days!  Here is a video of him saying Psalms 100-

Psalms 100-
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.
Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

So that's our week.  Trying to balance school with normal life and ministry can be a challenge.  This was our first week to balance it with a team.  Overall I think it went great.  That's good considering we have another team coming in three weeks and eight already scheduled for next year.  I see a lot of balancing in my future.  But, that's the beauty of homeschool and one of the reasons we chose to do it.  It just fits our family well at this time.
