Learning The Basics

Last Monday Cruz had his first soccer lesson.  We found a place in Chiquimula that offers lessons for kids ages 3-5.  We had been waiting until his birthday so he could start.  There is no competition or games at this age it's just for them to learn the basics of the game and to have fun.  There are about 8-10 kids in his group.  Most of them have been taking lessons for a while.  This was Cruz's first exposure.   They meet twice a week for an hour each time.  He's had two lessons so far and I think he might like it.

Arriving on his first day- I'd say he was a little bit excited.  I joked that this is what the coach looked like when we left, ha ha.

They do a lot of ball handling techniques and drills.

Goooo Cruz!!!

getting ready to jump over the cones holding the balls over their heads

here he had to run and jump over the cones holding the ball out in front of him

They take turns being the goalie.  They also line up and take turns kicking the ball into the goal.  At one point they all get to kick the ball in at the same time.  Cruz loves that part.

Look at that red face.  He was playing hard.

Doing some stretches to warm up at his second lesson.  Cruz's group and the older group do this part together.

He did not do very well his second time.  He missed his nap because our power went off and the combination of the heat and quietness woke him up.  Because of that he was very tired and a little ill mannered that day.  We hope he'll do better this week.

I am glad that this is available and close to us.  I like Cruz getting to interact with the other kids and have a little fun while doing it.  As long as he enjoys it and wants to keep going we'll do our best to take him there.
