July 2012 Newsletter

Greetings from Guatemala!  Happy Independence Day!  We plan to spend ours cooking out with another missionary couple, and just relaxing a bit.  As I began typing this update I found it hard to believe that it is July already.  The year is passing by quickly!  David is continuing to make weekly visits to the village of Nearer to hold a home Bible study.  The man of the house recently asked David and Bro. Nahum to consider coming on Sundays instead of Wednesdays because he thought more people would be able to attend.  That made us happy because as we had mentioned in our last update we do not have a place to go on Sundays.  Now we do!  David has been the past two Sundays by himself and we all have plans to go this week.  David says it is a pretty extreme hike to get to and from the house and we will each be carrying a child.  Please pray for strength as we make that trip.  Pray for David as he prepares to teach each week and for the hearts of the people to be receptive.

We made another visit to the village of Lagunetas with Dan and his two helpers from Honduras.  We presented his agriculture program to the people there, and had a great turnout.  We plan to take a group of twelve leaders and key people from that area over to Honduras to see the agriculture center and work there.  We will be making this day trip on Wednesday, July 11.  Please pray that it goes well and that we could soon begin working in that area.  Pray for God to soften the hearts of the people in that village, and that we could one day be doing Bible studies in their homes too.

We made a trip into Guatemala City for Ben's two month check-up and Cruz's two year check-up.  Both boys are doing great and growing like weeds.  We are beyond thankful to have two healthy kids.  That is a blessing we hope to never take for granted!

We went on an overnight trip to celebrate Father's Day and had a fun time of swimming and relaxing as a family.  We also visited a local circus with some other missionary families and had a great time together.   It is fun making family memories!

In case we have not mentioned it lately, we love what we do and are humbled to be called to serve.  We are honored to represent Southern Baptists on the mission field, and are thankful that they give so that we can be here.  We recently received word that last year's Lottie Moon Christmas offering was slightly more than one million dollars above the 2010 offering, making it one of the largest responses in history.  That is a significant statement in a year of tough financial realities that has created major difficulties for many organizations like ours.  If you gave we say THANK YOU!  It is because of those gifts that we can be here.  People need the Lord and we see many around us everyday who do not know Him.  As we share, you are a part of that because you give and pray.  THANK YOU!  We appreciate it.
