February 2011 Newsletter

Greetings from Guatemala! Hope this newsletter finds you doing well. We were glad to have many opportunities to get out among the people this past month. We are happy that our calendars are starting to get filled with places to go and people to see. Knowing that our time here is limited, we are wanting to make the most of the time we have. Pray that we would have a clear vision for what the Lord would have us accomplish in the next few years.

In January we visited five K'ekchi' villages. At some of them we had services, and at some we just visited. We enjoyed spending one on one time with a few pastors and look forward to getting to know others better as well. We heard about several villages where there is either no evangelical work or a few families have recently accepted Christ. We would love to visit those areas soon.

We had a great time at our mission prayer retreat in Guatemala City. Several families were able to attend. We had a team from Irvine, CA come down to lead us. We spent time in Bible study, worship, prayer, and fellowship.
Cruz is doing well. He started crawling and now has six teeth. He is such an asset to our being here. The locals adore him, and he loves to be with them as well.

We have made friends with several kids and teenagers that live next to us. They just started showing up at our house one day, and now come on a regular basis. We are enjoying getting to know them.

We attended the K'ekchi' Annual Convention here in Sayaxche'. It was a time for all of the pastors and leaders to meet to give their reports from the previous year, to set goals for the current year, to elect new officers, to conduct their business, and have worship and fellowship together. During 2010 there were 530 new believers, 500 were baptized, they started 5 new missions, and one mission was organized into an official church. We praise God for the way he is working here among the K'ekchi'!

We pray that February would be another month full of opportunities to share Christ and be an encouragement to those who already know him. Pray for us to be used greatly in the days ahead. Until next time...

Sending our love,
David, Regina, and Cruz

ADDITIONAL PRAYER REQUESTS:
1) pray for our health and safety
2) pray that we would be good communicators in both Spanish and K'ekchi'
3) pray for some leadership training that our supervisor, Jim McGriff, will be doing this month- Feb. 15-16 in Coban, Feb. 17-18 in Sayaxche', and Feb. 21-22 in Las Casas. A pastor from the States, David McGowin, will be coming down to teach. Also pray for Miss Fran who will be doing the translating for him.
