New Year's Day 2011

After being up late on New Year's Eve two of us would have loved to have slept in New Year's morning.  But, someone else had different plans so we got up and started our day early.  We went out for breakfast and then Cruz and I went for a nice walk around the lake.  I wanted to take a few photos around town and also enjoy the nice weather.

Here are a few photos I took that morning.  For those planning to come down this year on a volunteer team you will be happy to know that you will be spending at least two nights of your trip here in Flores.  We can't wait to enjoy these views with you!!!

There was a good bit of firework trash all over the streets but it was good to see people out cleaning it up early.
This was Cruz when we returned to our hotel.  The morning stroll must have worn him out (or maybe the fact that he was up all night).  Either way we let him (and ourselves) take a little nap before we checked out.

After waking up we loaded the car and decided to take a scenic drive around the lake before returning home.  Our friends, the Miller's, did this recently and told us about it.  We thought it would be a good day to try it out.

It took a little over two hours to go all the way around.  About half of the road was paved and the other half was a dirt road.  Some parts were developed and others looked very primitive.  There were several hotels places to sleep along the way, but nothing too inviting.  We did see many people swimming in the lake and having cookouts and picnics.  It looked more like a fourth of July kind of day rather than New Year's.
This was a place we passed along the way.  We were not sure if it was a hotel or private residence.
(cool name though)  ha

This was someone's fence we saw.  I thought it looked neat.

We did find a nice place to stop for lunch.
I ate spaghetti.

David had this fish plate.  Both were delicious!

As we passed though Santa Elena on our way home, we stopped and bought a few groceries before returning to Sayaxche'.  We were tired by the time we got home, but it was worth it.  We had a wonderful time celebrating the new year together.
