Day 2 of our trip to Las Casas

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Isaiah 55:6
Saturday morning was a free morning for all of us. Wendall and Jane did some visiting and below is a photo of how David and I spent our morning-

doing our K'ekchi' homework. We don't say that as a drudgery, we actually like it. We had 61 review questions to translate. It took us about 2 hours to get it done. The region of Guatemala that Las Casas is in is very hot. Not at all like Coban where we live. There is no air conditioner in the house but there are some ceiling fans. Since it was a little breeze blowing that morning, we decided to move our table outside and do our homework there. It was nice to get the fresh air and also to watch the people walk up and down the road. I am sure they were just as curious as to what we were doing as we were of them.

After lunch we loaded up and headed to Se' Cacau. We stopped by the K'ekchi' radio station in Las Casas to pick up the video equipment. Here are a few photos of it.

I mentioned earlier that Se' Cacau means "place of the chocolate". Here is a chocolate pod from one of the trees. You open it, get the seeds out, let them dry, roast them, and then grind them up like coffee beans. They make a chocolate drink out of them that is pretty good. We arrived in Se' Cacau mid-afternoon. We set up the equipment and then walked to Bro. Macario's house (the K'ekchi' missionary). We were fed Caldo and tortillas. The ladies were cooking tamales for the night and had some tomatoes roasting on the fire for the sauce. This is a typical looking K'ekchi' "stove" and kitchen. This is Bro. Macario's wife doing the cooking. The pot in the bottom right corner had our caldo in it.

This is an outside photo of the kitchen where we ate. They will typically have a house built similar to this and then a separate building for their kitchen.

We showed the movie "The Hope" in this church building. There was a large turn-out and the people seemed pleased by our coming
