Visiting Our South Carolina Partner Churches 2021

We recently completed our first travel trip for this Stateside Assignment.  We traveled to the beautiful State of South Carolina.  For many years we have partnered with two churches in the Mount Pleasant area.  The folks there are like family to us and we were very excited about getting to see them again.

ready to board our early Saturday morning flight

landing in Charleston

crossing the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge

We were greeted at the airport by these two sweet friends, Glenda and Jennifer.  They took us to lunch at Vickery's on Shem Creek.

after eating we walked out on the pier to enjoy the views

On Sunday morning we were at FBC Mount Pleasant.  We shared in both morning services and attended Sunday School in between.  After church we had a delicious group meal in the home of one of their members.

After eating we drove over to Fort Moultrie for an afternoon of exploring.  Jennifer and another family joined us.

Fort Moultrie is on Sullilvan's Island so we walked down to see the beach.

That evening we were back at FBC and shared an update at their Church Conference meeting.  We had an ice cream social afterwards and then went out for pizza with several members.

On Monday morning we met Jennifer for a morning of exploring at Charles Towne Landing.

The boys especially enjoyed seeing all of the animals there.

We had a rain delay so we hung out under a pavilion until it passed.

Ben caught frogs while we waited.

Playing on this ship was a highlight of our time there.

For lunch we enjoyed a delicious meal at Page's Okra Grill. I had the PBT sandwich and fried okra.  The sandwich was featured on the Travel Channel and had pimento cheese, bacon, and fried green tomatoes.  It was yummy!

That evening we joined the Mixon family at Charleston Fun Park for a round of putt putt golf and
arcade games.

On Tuesday we met with members of The Church at LifePark.  We had a morning coffee shop meet and greet and lunch at a local Mexican restaurant with a few staff members.  That afternoon we visited the Isle of Palms and played at the beach until dark.

We had a wonderful combined lunch fellowship with former teams members from FBC and LifePark on Wednesday at Melvin's Barbecue.  It was fun catching up with those who have served alongside us over the years.  Afterwards we spent the afternoon at Patriot's Point visiting the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier, the USS Laffey destroyer, the USS Clamagore submarine, and the Vietnam Experience exhibit.

We finished the day with supper at Chick fil A and then spent the rest of the evening visiting with Jennifer around the pool while the boys swam.  We also watched the Mississippi State baseball team win the national championship.  That was exciting!

We had another great Mexican meal with members of LifePark on Thursday.  We especially enjoyed catching up with the Masons.  They always bring the boys Raisinets.  This was the only picture I took during our meal times that week. I wish I had done better over the week taking group photos.   We were so busy visiting that I just did not take time to do it.

That evening we shared during the Thursday night Community Prayer Service at The Church at LifePark.

Enjoying supper with Rick, the Director of Evangelism and Missions, and Chad, the Senior Pastor.

A family photo with Rick.  He is fairly new to the missions position at LifePark so we especially enjoyed getting to meet him in person and getting to know him over the week.

A family photo with Jennifer.  It was our last evening there so we were a little sad to say goodbye to everyone.

We flew home on Friday morning. Of course, no trip through Atlanta is complete without a Chick fil A meal.

Everything about the week was wonderful.  We were able to reconnect with many former volunteer members as well as meet many new people we hope to work with in the future.  We love these two churches and are thankful for not only the investment they are making in our work in Guatemala but our family as well.
