November 2016 Newsletter

Greetings from Guatemala!  Our last team flew out on October 1 and then we took a few days off to take the boys to see some interesting Guatemala sites.   They were able to see some of the places in Guatemala that we had learned about during our Guatemala study around Independence Day back in September.  It was a fun time for our family and a great break from our normal daily school routine.

Our Bible studies are going steady.  In addition to our normal study times David also preached at a special night service in the village of Porto Suelo.  We do not have an ongoing Bible study there yet.  The people there either attend our Thursday study in Muyurco or our Sunday study in Nearar.  Continue to pray for the small group of believers that we are working with in that village.  Pray most of all that they would stay encouraged and be a bold witness to their family, neighbors, and friends.

We made a weekend trip to Coban to attend a special memorial service for Mr. Wendall Parker.  He was a retired IMB missionary who passed away back in June.  He was one of our mentors during our first few years on the mission field.  It was good to be there for the service and also be with our Kekchi brothers and sisters again.  That area and people will always hold a special place in our hearts.

We have a special service coming up in the village of Nearar.  It is an anniversary service that will take place on Saturday, November 5.  The Bible study group is very excited and have invited many to come be a part of it.  It will take place on the open land that the group has purchased.  Would you pray for this service?  Pray for the ones organizing it and leading it.  Pray for the guests who will come and hear the gospel.  Pray for lives to be changed in that village and surrounding areas.

We are looking forward to the Thanksgiving season and getting to celebrate with some other missionary families.  It will be a little different this year without our normal crew and location but we still anticipate a great time.  Today and every day we have much to be thankful for but it is good to set aside some time to really focus on it.  Like many of you that is what we will be doing over the next few weeks.  As the holiday season approaches remember to pray for the missionaries serving around the world who will spend the holidays away from family.  It can be a sad time of the year for many.
