Letters U and V

After two weeks of sporadic schooling (we hosted a team, I got sick, and then we traveled for Thanksgiving) my goal for last week was to get us back on track.  I was eager to get us back into our normal routine and for life to settle down a bit.  When you add in decorating for Christmas and getting caught up on laundry and household chores that makes for a full week.  Here is a look at week 16 of our homeschool-

We began the week with letter U.  We learned U is for umbrella and made this umbrella craft.

U is also for Up.  We watched you tube videos about hot air balloons and made this craft.

We learned this fun song too.  I just wish I could get it out of my head now, ha.

Our hot air balloon sailing in the clouds sandwich lunch.  This was Cruz's.  Ben had one too with a letter B on it but he dropped it in the floor before I could get a picture of it.

We talked about things that live underwater.

and we talked about things that live underground.

We also learned letter V.  We began with V is for vase.

We all loved learning about volcanoes.  This is our volcano craft.

We learned this song about volcanoes.  It is to the tune "Are You Sleeping?".

Our volcano snack made with brownies and red icing.

And of course we had to make our own volcano.  Here are the boys painting it.

Cruz with our volcano.

Look at that face!  Do you think they were excited?  You bet!

We listened to violin music and watched a video about how to play a violin.

We learned about vultures.

V is for Vine

And on Friday we learned about Veterinarians.  I wanted to make a field trip to visit a local vet but we didn't get that worked out.

In math we learned about squares and the addition facts 4+4 and 5+5.

Ben brought his car carrying truck and loaded it with math blocks while we did our lesson.

In Science we began a new study on plants.  This week we focused on seeds.  Here we are doing an experiment with dried beans.

In Bible we began learning the Christmas story.  That will be our story theme this whole month.  We also began learning some Christmas songs.  So far we have learned "Joy to the World", "Silent Night", "Away in a Manger", and "O Little Town of Bethlehem".  Our memory verse for the week was John 14:6.  Here is Cruz saying it-

In our read aloud time we finished the book The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling.  It is a really fun story and my boys loved it.

We also began some decorating in our school room for December.  Here is our door so far-
We are doing a countdown and adding a different ornament to our tree each day in anticipation for Christmas.

I hope to get in another good 2.5 weeks of study before we break for Christmas.  Is half of our school year really almost gone?  oh my!
