December 2010 Newsletter

Greetings from Guatemala! We are happy to report that we are getting settled in to our new home in Sayaxche. We thank each of you who prayed for us to find a place to live. We feel we are right where we are supposed to be. We spent the whole month fixing up the place, painting, and making repairs. We still have some work to do, and will be doing it along the way. Our crates arrived mid-month and we have had a fun time unpacking all of our things. It is starting to feel like home, and that is a good feeling! You can click HERE to see blog posts of where we live and the work we have done so far on the house.

Please pray for our continued adjustment here. Since arriving in Guatemala we have always lived in what we considered safe, gated areas. We have always had the extra protection of walls and razor wire around our properties. Here in Sayaxche that is not the case. Our house is visible and open to any and all who pass by. We are accustomed to people ringing our gate and we go out to see who it is. Here they come right up to your door, which is usually open because of the heat. We do not feel afraid, but do ask that you pray the Lord's protection over us and our things.

Pray with us as we seek to find the best way to be used here in the ministry. We plan to sit down with the national missionaries soon and see where the greatest needs are and develop a strategy as to how to reach those areas. We are eager to get out into the villages and be among the people. We also want to thank the past medical teams as the left over medicines were able to be used here in Sayaxche by a medical team from Canada led by another missionary.

We have decorated our Christmas tree and a little around the house. We are really looking forward to a fun Christmas season this year with baby Cruz. With that said, it is also going to be the hardest one we have spent here. We are going to miss our families and Cruz being a part of their holiday festivities. Please pray for us and thousands of other missionaries around the world who will be spending the holidays away from their family and friends this year.

This month we will be making our first much dreaded seven hour drive into Guatemala City. We plan to attend our mission Christmas party (we missed the Thanksgiving gathering because it was just too far to travel), getting Cruz's six month check-up and vaccines, my six month post baby check-up, and doing some shopping. We also plan to have his photo taken with the Guatemalan Santa, and do a lot of good eating. We will return and spend Christmas here in Sayaxche.

Cruz is doing well. He turned six months old on the twenty-sixth of November. He is growing up way to fast. You can click HERE to read about what he has been doing lately.

Thanks for lifting us up in prayer. We are very thankful for all of our prayer supporters and consider each of you a blessing to our lives and ministry! Until next time...

Sending our love,
David, Regina, and Cruz
