A Few Before Photos

We packed up the car with our first load of things and headed to Sayaxche on Sunday afternoon.  We filled it as full as we could.  Poor Cruz had stuff all around him.  He should be getting used to traveling like this, ha.
We arrived, paid our rent, and did a little looking around the house.  We had a few moments of silence to let reality sink in (just kidding, kinda).  We had planned to buy paint in Santa Elena so instead of driving there Monday morning and spending half of the day traveling and shopping we decided to drive on there Sunday night, eat, shop, sleep, and return to Sayaxche first thing Monday morning to begin work.  While there, sometime Sunday night I began to feel ill and ended up with a stomach bug that left me feeling yuck!  We didn't have to check out of the motel until 1:00 so we waited until then to see if I would be able to travel the hour and 1/2 back to Sayaxche.  I did make the trip, but went straight to the hotel there and got back in bed.  David went on to the house to do some cleaning while Cruz and I rested.  It was the first time I have been sick since having him and it was NOT fun.  I missed having family or someone close by to help with the baby.  I also missed not feeling like playing with him.   By the next morning I was feeling much better and spent the day at the house helping  watching David work.  I took a few photos of the house before we work on it.  I'll continue to post updates of our progress.
This is the only photo I took of the outside.  The owner has a man there working on the flower beds.  Yes, the flower beds!!  Like the house isn't a MESS,  and he's trying to spruce up the yard, haha.  He said he needed to get it nice before Cruzito (that's what the locals call the baby- Little Cruz) starts to walking.
these are a few photos of the living room from different angles
it's a nice size room.  straight ahead is the front door.
the floors are concrete
The kitchen is off of the living room.  You can see it straight ahead.
The owner left the table there for us to use until our crate arrives.  The microwave is old and doesn't work.  We are not sure why it is there.
our counter

The sink I was soo excited about.  I think it's been there a while, but at least we have one.

Our kitchen faucet

This is in the corner of the counter- just a large hole.  We plan to cover it up.

Another photo of the counter.  We plan to have some shelves built underneath, and possibly some cabinets built overhead.  My other wish would be to retile the counter and add a double sink, but David thinks I might be going overboard.  A girl can dream, right?

I mentioned before that the house has a roof but no ceiling. This is what I meant.

This is the entrance to the inside bathroom.  We love the shelves.  They will come in handy.

I needed to clean in here already but after being sick I just didn't have the energy or motivation.  The wood cabinet was under the sink but David removed it already.  He wants to have another one built.

This will be our bedroom.  The owner left this shelf/ cabinet which we will use to put our clothes in.

Cruz's nursery

The third bedroom that we will use for storage and an office.  There is another storage room on the outside we will use too.  Notice Cruz napping on the cot.

This is how we are keeping cool.

As you can see we have a lot to do, but we are up for the challenge.  We are eager to make this house our home!  We started painting on Tuesday and I'll post a few pics of that tomorrow.  We'll be attending a Pastor's Conference today in town so pray that goes well.

  2. So glad you're feeling better...so now you can get busy on the house stuff, ha! I'm sure you will have it all spruced up in no time, but I can imagine the in-between must seem a bit daunting.

Love that photo of Cruz with the pumpkins! Those chubby cheeks, aw, I could just eat him up!
