Our Trip to Covington, LA

This past weekend we traveled to Covington, LA to see several friends and visit a few churches.

We stayed in the home of Rock and Susan Kendrick.  Rock visited us 4 times in Guatemala on media and medical teams.  Saturday night we attended a Sunday School party he was hosting at his home.  He teaches the 30-40 year old class.  They were a fun bunch to hang out with!  We ate, fellowshiped, and played the white elephant game.

Sunday morning we spoke at New Zion Baptist Church.  Our former pastor, Clark Stewart, is the pastor there now.  It was great to see him and Pam and visit their church.  They have a wonderful congregation and God is blessing them greatly there!

We were also glad that Trey and Keisha Spangler drove over from Slidell to see us.  Trey was one of our former youth.  He just graduated from Southern Seminary and they are expecting their first child in July!  It was great to see them!

Sunday night we attended First Baptist Church.  They are one of our partnering churches in Guatemala.  They send 2-3 teams each year to work with us.  We have enjoyed building relationships with them and feel like they are our family.  We were excited to see some of our team members and catch up with them!

After the service a few of us went out to dinner together.  We ate at Zea.  We loved their fried catfish!

We saw many more who visited us in Guatemala but didn't get photos of everyone.

Monday morning before we drove home Rock and Susan's son, Barrett, came over to have breakfast with us.  Barrett was on our first media team.  On that team we rode up river in a canoe, did our first hike, slept on camp cots in a K'ekchi' home for the first time, and had fish caldo for breakfast (first and last time, ha).  It was one of our hardest but most favorite trips of all.

We had a WONDERFUL weekend!  It was refreshing to see everyone and talk about the work in Guatemala.  We are thankful for wonderful new friends that we have been able to make as a result of being on mission in Guatemala!
