Celebrating David's Birthday!

It was a great weekend of celebration for David's birthday! On Friday night several of us went out to eat at the Real Estancia outside of town. It's another favorite eating place of ours (we seem to have a lot of those). We enjoyed a great meal together there at the restaurant.

Fran, Jim, Carol, David, Gabrielle, Regina, Jane, & Wendall Most all of us ordered licuados. They are fresh fruit drinks blended with ice and either water or milk. We LOVE them. Our options were pineapple, strawberry, papaya, watermelon, cantelope, and blackberry. I prefer the strawberry or pineapple but David loves the mixto- a little of all the fruits.

Gabrielle is the daugher of a friend of Miss Fran's in the States. She came down to spend a month of her summer break in Guatemala.

After dinner we all went to the Parker's for brownies, ice cream, & coffee.

Sunday morning, David's actual birthday, we had an early surprise- fire crackers & singing! It is the Guatemalan way of saying "happy birthday". After the rain stopped, this is what our sidewalk looked like. Sure brought back a lot of memories from our youth ministry days!!
We attended church services in the town of Chamelco and then went out to eat lunch. We came back to our place and had cake. Well, not actually cake but cheesecake. Last week while in Guatemala City I found, for the first time, a ready made graham cracker crust!! I was VERY excited. Haven't seen one here before! So instead of baking a cake, I made him a cherry cheesecake and we all enjoyed it.

Happy Birthday, David!

I think he had a pretty good celebration.

  2. I love drinks that are as big as one's head.

Actually, a friend of mine is Q'eqchi Maya up here in DC. We met working together at the National Museum of the American Indian. Keep doing good work! Have a great SITS day!

  3. Sorry we couldn't be there to help you celebrate but sounds like you did just fine anyway! Glad you all had a good time. We had the journeygirls over for church and lunch Sunday and enjoyed our time together. Hope you have a good week, "old man."

  5. Hey from Alabama!
My name is Leslie Cude and you commented on my blog a few weeks ago(club Cude). I don't know how you found it, but I am glad you did. I went to Guatemala on my first foreign trip and God used it to give me a renewed love for missions, Himself, and for Guatemala. I live in Birmingham, but I am from Dothan. We were members of Southside Baptist for over 18 years. Imagine my surprise when the mission team from Southside said we could keep up their trip this week through your blog! I was thinking, "I think those are the missionaries who commented on my blog!" We also prayed for you yesterday at church!( We were home visiting my family) I have known Ms. Shirley and Mrs. Jeanette for many years and I knew Stephen when he was a little boy! Anyway, please know that I will be praying for you and them this week. I would love to meet you someday, maybe the next time we are both in Guatemala!!

  6. Uhhhhhhhh ... Miss Regina, I think I celebrated my birthday in Guatemala on Sunday, 12 July 2009, and I don't remember getting a cherry cheesecake. In fact, what I remember is getting an invitation to stand up in my chair and make a fool out of myself.

I'll be back to Guatemala on my birthday next year, expecting a cherry cheesecake from you as a forgiveness offering.

    :-)
