New Year's Day 2009

We slept in, had a great breakfast, and spent the rest of the morning doing nothing. Right after lunch our friends Jim & Shelley Dinsmore picked us up for an afternoon outing with them. They live in the Peten and serve as missionaries there. We met them in early 2008 and have tried to keep in touch as much as we could.
We drove across the lake to the town of San Andres where they have friends who own property on the water. We parked at their house and went kayaking on the lake. It was soo much fun!

After spending a while on the lake we returned and spent a while there hanging out and talking. We were treated to a steak, baked potato, and salad dinner and ate by the water. It was soo good and in a perfect setting.

After eating, we returned to our motel and they came up and played Phase 10 with us on the balcony. It was a great day. Most likely one of the most enjoyable we have had in a while.

We joined them again for dinner on Friday night at their house and then played cards and talked for hours. They taught us how to play Nertz. It's a fun game but very intense. We enjoyed their fellowship and had a great time being with them. We talked on the drive back to the motel what a blessing it has been that God has faithfully put friends in our path throughout our time in Guatemala. We are looking forward to getting together again with them soon.

  1. Hi, I found your blog post through a search for “Nertz”. It is cool to see others that know about the game. I hope you don’t mind but I wanted to let you know about playnertz.com, the site for the National Nertz Association. There is a bunch of interesting Nertz information there and you can also find out how to play Nertz online there. I hope you will check it out. Feel free to join and also let your friends and family know. Thanks
